Picxy
'Really' listening to your customers
Yash Ayyagari

Context & Goal
Picxy was a nascent stock-photo marketplace targeting India and South Asia. My mission: build a one-stop visual-content hub by securing top-tier photographers and enterprise clients on retainer.
Challenge
As a startup, we faced tight budgets, zero brand awareness, and a need to prove rapid traction—all within a fixed six-month window.
Approach
Aggressive contributor acquisition: Launched a tiered referral program with performance-based incentives, yielding a 3× faster signup rate among established photographers.
Data-driven targeting: Analyzed industry events and online portfolios to prioritize outreach to the top 200 creative professionals, converting 40% into active contributors.
Value-add partnerships: Bundled licensing trials for media agencies, offering exclusive short-term rates to lock in retainers early.
Impact
Onboarded 50,000+ high-quality images in six months
Secured 15 enterprise retainer agreements (leading media houses, ad agencies)
Drove 25% MoM growth in licensing revenue
Exit Highlight: Picxy was acquired in late 2020—underscoring the platform’s market traction and valuation growth
